The Offaly native began his career in the industry within the family business, the County Arms in Birr. After his Leaving Certificate, he went to the University of Surrey to study for a BSc in Hotel and Catering Management. During that time he worked in Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Kensington Palace, Clarence House, High Grove and Downing Street. He also worked for the Hyatt Group.

A move home to Ireland to start a family with his wife Sarah saw Peter take over the Sales and Marketing for the family hotel, where he stayed for 10 years.

Peter Loughnane said, “Hospitality is in my blood, I was born into a family hotel and lived there for many years. I started at a young age picking up litter in the car park and sorting bottles before making my way up to the restaurant and bar as a teenager. I am delighted to be working with the Trigon Hotel Group once again, the five years I spent as General Manager at the Cork Airport Hotel were invaluable. It really is an exciting challenge to promote Trigon Hotels on a local, national and international stage.”

Managing Director of Trigon Hotels, Aaron Mansworth said, “I am delighted to announce Peter Loughnane as Group Sales and Marketing Director. He brings with him a wealth of experience and is the ideal person for this role. TRIGON HOTELS TOP THE BILL ON ‘OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE’

press release

TRIGON HOTELS TOP THE BILL ON ‘OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE’

Cork group’s team delighted to see ‘massive efforts’ rewarded

Trigon Hotels has claimed victory at Ireland’s inaugural Operational Excellence Awards. The group, which includes the Metropole Hotel, the Cork International Hotel and the Cork Airport Hotel won the Hotel and Leisure category and were finalists in the overall Operational Excellence Award division.

The awards developers, Business River say the programme aims to recognise and reward those committed to ‘operational excellence and business transformation’. In their submission to the judges, the Trigon hotels team highlighted how both of these topics were priorities for them over the past 18 months.

Since establishing a company-wide COVID-19 committee at the start of 2020, Trigon Hotels has led the way in adopting necessary health provisions and transforming their business to cope with the great upheaval its industry is still enduring.

The three hotels also devised new and innovative ways of being part of their respective communities, like afternoon tea deliveries, a takeaway cafe service, online cocktail demonstrations and a wide range of other digital offerings via the ‘Hotel at Home Hub’.

Trigon Hotels has also been busy on the Health and Safety and Sustainability front. 2020 saw the group recruit a Health and Safety coordinator and each of the three hotels now also has a trained Mental Health First Aider. The group’s Greening & Sustainability working group has been in place for 12 months.

Aaron Mansworth, Managing Director from Trigon Hotels says: “We are truly delighted to get this good news from the Operational Excellence Awards. Each one of our team has worked so hard and been through so much over the past 18 months and they absolutely deserve this recognition. I’d like to thank the award judges for the opportunity to showcase our hard work and of course our fantastic and loyal customers who have been so supportive at a very difficult time.”

TRIGON HOTELS GIVES A DAY OFF TO THE TEAM AS A “THANK YOU”

press release

TRIGON HOTELS GIVES A DAY OFF TO THE TEAM AS A “THANK YOU”

National Workplace wellbeing day will take place on Friday 30th April 2021. At Trigon Hotels, wellbeing in the workplace has always been of paramount concern and to celebrate Workplace Wellbeing Day, all team members are being gifted a ‘Wellness Day’ to enjoy such much needed R&R as a gesture of gratitude by the company’s Managing Director, Aaron Mansworth (pictured above).

In a year like no other, with the hospitality industry being so severely impacted by Covid 19, the mental and physical wellbeing of the team was of critical importance.

Throughout this past year, there have been a variety of initiatives to support the teams across the Cork International Hotel, the Cork Airport Hotel and the Metropole Hotel. Some of these include the Trigon Team Support Hub, which is an internal hub which has provided direct access to the various supports that have been needed during Covid 19 – including mental health supports, financial advice, wellbeing supports and so much more.

The hotels have also hosted some fun events including zoom bingo, a virtual Halloween party for the children of team members and a virtual awards ceremony. They are currently in the process of organising their ‘Trigons Got Talent’ so their team members can show off their secret talents to their colleagues.

Managing Director of Trigon Hotels, Aaron Mansworth said: “This past year has been incredibly challenging for so many people, and in particular at industry level, within the tourism and hospitality sector. The team have overcome many hurdles in order to protect the business and livelihoods and for that I am immensely grateful. They collectively worked in order to change the way that we do business in order to stay connected to our guests and communities. I am so proud of each team member and grateful for their commitment, hard work and dedication. As a gesture of thanks, I am delighted to gift each team member a ‘wellness day’. They can use this paid days leave any way they wish so whether it’s a day outdoors in nature or a day on the sofa, once they get to recharge their batteries and relax”.

CORK HOTEL GROWING VEGETABLES AND HERBS IN NEW ROOFTOP GARDEN

CORK HOTEL GROWING VEGETABLES AND HERBS

IN NEW ROOFTOP GARDEN

Garden on the roof of the Cork International Hotel will provide ingredients for the kitchen and cocktails

A new rooftop garden has been constructed at the Cork International Hotel. It will be used to grow vegetables and herbs for the hotel's team of chefs. The ingredients will also be used in cocktails sold at the bar. The opening of the new addition coincides with Earth Day which takes place this Thursday, April 22nd. Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

The Cork International Hotel has set ambitious goals to lower its carbon footprint by 5% every year by reducing energy consumption and waste. The hotel plans to reduce waste by 15% in the next year and to achieve these goals, they will be implementing an inhouse composting system.

The hotel is working with its team to encourage eco-friendly practices at work and at home. It’s also engaging with suppliers to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and is introducing ‘carbon neutralising’ initiatives for guests after travelling. All team members at the hotel have begun a 6 month training programme with “50 Shades Greener”.

General Manager of the Cork International Hotel, Carmel Lonergan said: “We are committed to ensuring that our activities at the hotel have the least possible detrimental impact on the environment. The construction of a rooftop garden is just one element of this. We are dedicated to our team’s education and awareness to ensure that there is a culture of environmental responsibility across the company at every level which will ensure our sustainable strategy is maintained year on year. During the past year, it really gave us an opportunity to see what improvements we can make as individuals and as a business. It has been so fulfilling and actually so much fun to see how we have all worked together as a team to bring our vision to reality.

Hotel Greening Manager, Edel Kavanagh said: “It is such an honour to have been appointed as the Greening Manager for the hotel, along with my existing role of Front Office Manager. We all have a responsibility to look after the world that we live in and it is such an exciting project for us as a team. We are passionate about making a difference but we are also really excited about the creative and fun challenges that we have set for the team over the next few months”.

Head Chef at the Cork International Hotel, Christopher O’Sullivan said: “It’s wonderful to see what was an unused space being turned into a practical, kitchen garden. We’re committed to responsibly sourced produce and you can’t get more responsibly sourced than vegetables and herbs grown on our own roof. It also means we will have the freshest ingredients possible in our food and drinks.”

L'Atitude. On the road again

We’re heading south this week to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It might come as a surprise to some that wine is produced in Morocco, but wine has been made in North Africa for at least 2,500 year...
..Our Volubia red is a perfect ally for food. To say we are excited about this week’s destination would be a slight understatement. There are so many colourful ingredients and flavours to choose from, we’ll find it hard to narrow it down. As usual we will choose a selection that we think will marry best with the wine.
Email info@latitude51.ie by noon Thurs if you’d like to join our adventure. €50 box for 2 people. Collection Friday 2 April from 5 -6.30
