With thirty-one locations across the country, Zambrero Ireland, with the help of sports ambassador, Olympic Sprinter Sharlene Mawdsley, is rallying the Cork community and asking volunteers to register at zambrero.ie and help pack up to 100,000 meals for those in need of food worldwide on Thursday, 16th October at University College Cork.
Darragh Fanning, General Manager of Zambrero Ireland, expressed his commitment to the initiative, saying, "This is our fourth year running the
Meal Packing Day initiative — but our very first time bringing it to Cork! We’ve felt so much love from the people of Cork since expanding our stores here, and now we’re asking you to join us in giving back to communities facing hunger around the world. Grab your friends and family and join us on October 16th to help pack meals. We’ll bring the music, food, and craic — all you need to bring is yourself!Throughout the year, every time you purchase a burrito, bowl, or Kids Zam Box at Zambrero, a meal is donated to someone facing hunger around the world through their Plate4Plate Initiative, in partnership with Rise Against Hunger. To strengthen its pledge even further this year, on October 16th, Zambrero will double its donation so every meal sold in stores across the country will mean two meals donated.
Irish Olympic sprinter and Zambrero ambassador for the initiative, Sharlene Mawdsley, will help pack meals on the day in UCC. “I look forward to Meal Packing Day every year, I can’t believe this is my fourth time taking part! I love jumping in and getting the meals packed, knowing they’re going to make a real difference to communities around the world. It’s extra special this year with the event coming to Cork for the first time. Last year, over 500 volunteers packed more than 130,000 meals — I hope we can beat it this year”.
Zambrero is on a mission to help end world hunger with a global goal to donate 100 million meals by 2025 through its Plate4plate initiative, along with charity distribution partner Rise Against Hunger. In 2025 alone, Zambrero Ireland is on track to donate one million meals.
Zambrero has been dedicated to ending world hunger since its inception in 2005. Through its global Plate4Plate initiative, the company donates a nutritious meal to someone facing hunger for every burrito or bowl sold. Rise Against Hunger works worldwide to support communities facing food insecurity. The charity provides volunteer-packed meals, school feeding programs, and sustainable agriculture initiatives that empower communities to become self-reliant while addressing immediate nutrition needs. With a global goal of donating 100 million meals by 2025, Zambrero Ireland alone is on track to contribute one million meals this year.
