O'Briens Wines Feature 12 Acres Brewing
In county County Laois one of Ireland’s finest breweries produces beer with a ‘ground to glass’ ethos. 12 Acres Brewing Co. make beer using barley grown on their family farm surrounding the brewery and with spring water drawn from deep below the land.

Thankfully, he brought something back from his travels, a love of craft beer. Read more here.

Kylie Minogue photographed at The Ritz London, August 2020, (c) Darenote Ltd.

Kylie Minogue Wines are thrilled to introduce
the latest two wines in the Kylie Minogue Wines portfolio: the Signature Sauvignon Blanc and the Signature Merlot. Both the Sauvignon Blanc and the Merlot complete the long-awaited Kylie Minogue Wines’ Signature Range, which also includes the wildly popular and best-selling Signature Rosé, debuted in May by pop icon Kylie Minogue.

Fun and spontaneous like Kylie herself, the Signature Sauvignon Blanc originates from Gascony, in the south-west of France, and carries a fresh and lively nose of lime blossom and gooseberry, whilst zesty and crisp on the palate - described by Kylie as the perfect accompaniment with a fresh watermelon, feta and mint salad.

The Kylie Minogue Wines’ Signature Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot will be available exclusively in Ireland on www.WinesofTheWorld.ie and Carry Out Off Licences at an RRP of €12.99 from Monday 24th August.

Bubble Brothers Ready To Tango, and more on wine, beer and spirits in Cheers #7

Bubble Brothers Ready To Tango
Once upon a time, we tasted some samples from Finca Agostino in Mendoza, Argentina, and knew immediately these were wines we shouldn't miss out on.

Our first consignment arrived in Cork last week, and we're excited to bring five new wines to Ireland.

Four of them are Malbecs, representing four tiers of quality and complexity. What we liked at the original tasting was that there was no suggestion of compromise with even the least expensive of the four, the Uma Malbec. More details here.

Bubble Brothers introduce innovative sustainable wine packaging

Bubble Brothers introduce innovative sustainable wine packaging

With a recent nationwide surge in online grocery shopping and home delivery services, Bubble Brothers Wine Merchants, based in The English Market, Cork, have made the environmentally conscious decision to ‘Go Green’ with their new wine delivery packaging.

Sourced from the UK, Bubble Brothers felt the need to invest in a new method of packaging that is not only ecological but also protective and secure. The sustainable packaging called ‘Pulpsafe’, is made from 100% recycled materials and is 100% recyclable and reusable.

Billy Forrester, Managing Director of Bubble Brothers Wine Merchants, states ‘After twenty years in business, we remain proud to offer great wine and champagne in the English Market and online. Since the advent of COVID-19, there has been a surge in orders from our website for home delivery, and we were delighted to find a robust, sustainable solution for shipping by courier. The new recycled boxes are far better for the environment than polystyrene, for instance, because if they can’t be re-used, they can be recycled yet again!’

Billy continued, ‘Wine is difficult to transport safely, like any liquid stored in glass. Bottles are easily broken if they’re not securely packed, and one breakage can ruin a whole mixed case. We’ve learned from experience that investment in packaging is money well spent, and the new boxes represent great value: they’re good for the planet, easy to pack and unpack, and they’re really strong and secure. We don't charge for our transit boxes, but we hope our customers find creative ways to keep them going once they've arrived, whether that's recycling or reuse.’

Bubble Brothers are also currently looking into implementing a discount system for the packaging that is returned to them for reuse.

For further information on Bubble Brothers Wine Merchants visit bubblebrothers.ie or their stall at The English Market, Cork. Many of The English Market Traders have introduced home delivery and click and collect services, for more information please visit www.corkcity.ie/en/english-market/click-and-collect-delivery-services.

Trading through testing times. The English Market Traders continue to serve the people of Cork

Trading through testing times
The English Market Traders continue to serve the people of Cork

The English Market has served the people of Cork since 1788 in the face of famine, flood, war and multiple recessions. As many of the English Market tenants continue to trade, it is almost certain that ‘global pandemic’ will soon be added to its list of triumphant battles.

Many of the food entrepreneurs and family businesses within the English Market have stepped up to recent challenges by diversifying and adapting from the traditional approach, to help support their communities, keep supply chains moving and ensure the viable continuity of their businesses.

The English Market remains open for business in the heart of Cork City Centre as the traders today as in 1788, are as focussed as ever on “Serving the City”.

In addition, many of the innovative English Market Traders have recently introduced home delivery and order and collect services to support their customers who may be cocooning or unable to visit the Market during these times.

There is approximately 30 independent food retailers within the English Market open, providing a full supply of the very best of Irish produce including, freshly caught local fish and seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables, local farm reared meat and poultry, as well as some of Ireland’s best cheese, wine and preserve options - among a host of other foodie delights from both near and far.

For customers visiting the English Market, there is the added advantage of free parking throughout the city and many social distancing, safety and security measures in place in the Market to keep shoppers and traders safe.

The English Market is open Monday to Saturday, 8am-6pm (although some traders are operating reduced opening hours), for further information please visit www.englishmarketcork.ie.
