-SuperValu encourage other counties to follow in Cork’s footsteps & become more adventurous on the BBQ this summer-

As the weather gets warmer 54% of people in Cork are getting ready to fire up the BBQ this summer. Research, conducted by SuperValu, has dived into the BBQ habits of the Cork and Irish public and reveals some interesting food findings. According to research findings Corkonians are the most adventurous on a BBQ, with only 38% stating they grill the same meat every time they BBQ, in comparison to Galway who have been found to be the biggest creatures of habit in Ireland, with 61% sticking with their regular BBQ menu. The Cork public do have some BBQ favourites, with sausages (94%), burgers (91%) and chicken (85%) top of their shopping list.  Surprisingly only 19% of Cork natives plan on cooking one of the most delicious cuts of meat, a steak, on the BBQ this summer.

Survey results also highlighted that getting the best and freshest meat (88%) is why Cork people chose to buy meat from the butcher counter in a supermarket. SuperValu stores in Cork have 56 butchers working across 30 stores with over 1,200 years of combined experience so shoppers are guaranteed the best advice at the counter. When visiting their local SuperValu butcher, the people of Cork continue to opt for Striploin Steak as their beef cut of choice, followed closely behind by Sirloin Steak.

Speaking about Cork shoppers, well-known butcher Tadgh from SuperValu Glanmire commented, “We serve over 850 shoppers at our counter every week sharing our knowledge and giving advice on the best cuts and meat on offer. You don’t always need to go for expensive cuts to make a tasty dish. We have great offers each week and we advise our shoppers to shop smart, buy the offers and we help with the inspiration to add that magic sprinkle to the dish.”
