West Cork Underwater Search & Rescue Fundraising Gala Dinner

PRESS RELEASE

West Cork Underwater Search & Rescue Fundraising Gala Dinner
“A Celebration of Land and Sea”

Deasy’s Restaurant, Clonakilty, West Cork
Sunday 28th October, 7.30pm

Every day, thousands take to the ocean waves – to work, to play or to protect. Sometimes, the ocean can be unforgiving and challenge the prospect of a safe return to shore. When this happens, it brings comfort to know that there is a dedicated team of volunteers ready to heed the call to action and search for loved ones missing at sea.

West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue was created in 2012 following the Tit Bonhomme tragedy. Ever since WCUSAR has been ready to undertake search and rescue missions whenever they are needed anywhere in West Cork.

WCUSAR is completely funded by donations and staffed by volunteers year round. On Sunday 28th October, they have teamed up with renowned head chef Caitlin Ruth of Deasy’s Restaurant, Ring Pier, Clonakilty for a very special gala fundraiser dinner.

On the night guests will be treated to unique six-course menu complete with a cocktail and canape reception and a whiskey nightcap. Steve Redmond, West Cork-based record breaking open sea swimmer, will be the guest of honour. Steve is a huge supporter of WCUSAR, recently completing a fundraising swim to Fastnet Lighthouse, and will no doubt be full of stories to regale diners of his adventures out at sea!

John Murphy, diver and treasurer of WCUSAR said, “The West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue unit provides an emergency service along the West Cork coastline. The unit consists of highly trained and experienced divers, mariners and shore support volunteers.

“We’re delighted to be working with Deasy’s Restaurant for our fundraising Gala Dinner. We have been overwhelmed by the local support we have received from Caitlin Ruth, the team at Deasy’s and all the local food producers who are kindly donating their time and produce for our event. Steve Redmond has been a long-time supporter of WCUSAR so to have him as our guest of honour will be really special for us.

“All the monies raised from tickets sales for the dinner will go directly towards buying new equipment we desperately need to continue providing the very best service we can to those who rely on us. We can’t wait to welcome every one of our ticket holders on Sunday 28th October for a very special evening indeed!”

Caitlin Ruth said, “It was such an honour to be approached by WCUSAR about this event. Deasy’s Restaurant is located right on the waters’ edge at Ring Pier, and we have really close working relationships with the fishing community, so we understand the importance of the work that WCUSAR does to keep peace of mind for those who work at sea. You hope that no-one ever needs their help, but it is also a great comfort to know they are there should their specialist help be needed.”

The evening’s sponsors include: Deasy’s Restaurant, Glenmar Shellfish, West Cork Whiskey, Woodcock Smokery, M J O’Neill’s Craft Butchers, Dunworley Organic Vegetables, Red Strand Coffee and Flavour.ie.

Every cent raised from ticket sales goes directly to West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue. Tickets for the six course menu including canapes, cocktail and whiskey nightcap are priced at €55pp. Pre-booking essential, tickets can be purchased via www.eventbrite.com – search West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue.
