Cork Cheese Week Latest

Elke O'Mahony has been in touch with all the details on the Cork Cheese Week which kicks off today.....

Autumn is here and with it a lot of excitement. I am utterly delighted to be involved in the inaugural Cork Cheese Week that is happening from 24th - 30th September. Restaurants around Cork are taking part by creating a special dish/menu showcasing the best of Irish Farmhouse Cheeses - you can find a list of participating venues on the dedicated website.

But the highlight will be the Cheese Gala Dinner in the Cork Airport Hotel. We have four of Cork's best Chefs cooking up a storm in the hotel restaurant Olivo. Francesca Jara of L'Atitude 51, Kate Lawlor of Oyster Tavern, Pamela Kelly of Chef o'Clock and Christine Girault of La Spoon Patisserie have created an amazing menu that will be matched with wine for each of the courses. Tickets are €65 including wine and can be booked here.

The Cheese Fair is taking place on Saturday, 29th and Sunday, 30th September, also in the Cork Airport Hotel - we have created a beautiful market atmosphere for you to meet the cheesemakers, attend workshops and watch demonstrations. Entry is €5 and you can either book ahead here or pay directly at the door. You get a lot for a fiver - free workshops (craft beer and cheese matching, wine & cheese matching, history of Irish Farmhouse Cheese and many more).
