Summer’s here and what could be more delicious than sipping a cold beer? If you’ve ever wondered about the magic behind making that chilled brew, then Mescan’s new Brewery Tours are for you. The 90 minute tours take place on over a dozen dates over the summer at the micro-brewery near Croagh Patrick on Clew Bay. The cost is €15 per person.
“We’ve been inundated with requests to tour the brewery”, said Cillian Ó Móráin, co-owner of Mescan, “People enjoy finding out how Belgian style beers are brewed and we like nothing better than talking about beer and brewing – it’s a match made in heaven”.
Either Cillian or his Belgian-born business partner Bart Adons personally lead each tour. Group sizes are generally small but groups larger than 10 people can be accommodated on request. The brewery is located about 20 minutes from Westport along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Tours will take place at 2.30pm and 5.30pm on the following dates: June –4th (Bank Holiday weekend), 24th July –1st, 7th, 18th, 28th, 30th August – 4th, 6th(Bank Holiday weekend), 15th, 22nd, 29th October – 27th, 29th (Bank Holiday weekend)
In September Mescan are launching ‘Education at Mescan’ and inviting beer lovers to join them on one (or both) of two full day workshops. ‘Learn How to Brew a Belgian Beer’ on Saturday 22nd September and ‘Learn How to Drink Beer Like a Real (Wo)Man’ on Sunday 23rd. Booking is essential as numbers really are very limited.
Mescan are also taking part in the quirkily monikered Gráinne Ale Festival described as ‘an annual celebration of Mayo’s fiercest female’. It takes place in Gracy’s, Westport House on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June. Admission is free.
