Coming Up Soon at L’Atitude 51

media release

We hope you survived January with your resolutions still intact. We also hope that tasting loads of good wine was part of it!

After a very busy and successful 2016, which saw L’Atitude 51 turn 5 years old, we’re very much looking forward to an exciting 2017 and lots of great events. There were many highlights last year and our winter programme closed out the year in style, including a Beaujolais Nouveau night with a difference, where we morphed into Parisian Bistro/Natural Wine Bar for the evening; we also spent a fantastic Tuesday evening tasting and learning about the wines from Ribera del Duero in the hands of two experts, Agustin & Vicente from the Consejo Regulaodor de Ribera del Duero; and our CineCafe screening of “Vatel” transported us back in time to the reign of King Louis XIV when status and political clout were often demonstrated via the dinner table, and great chefs were prizes to be sought – our tastes for the evening paid homage to Vatel’s colourful larder.

We kicked off 2017 with Our Wine Fundamentals Level 1 Course and there’s plenty more to look forward to in the months ahead…

Education, Tastings & Events

Sat March 4th – Sat April 1st

We have decided to rerun the Wine Fundamentals Level 1 Course in March as there was a lot of interest for the last one, but the dates didn’t suit everyone. The Level 2 (Follow-on Course) will therefore take place either in May or September.
Run over 4 Saturdays from 3.30pm – 5.00pm. 4 classes designed to be fun and interactive ideally suited to people who have an interest in wine and want to learn a little more. It covers the basics of how to taste wine, the main grape varieties and winemaking regions of the world as well as the food and wine matching and sparkling wine modules.
You don't have to attend all 4 classes, but if you sign up for all 4 you can avail of a discount.
Each class costs €40, or €160 for the full course (€140 with discount).
As this is numbers dependent, send us an email to let us know if you’d be interested in attending.

Wednesday 22nd February. Doors 7.30pm Movie Starts 7.45pm

Highly entertaining documentary that uncorks the counterfeit wine scandal that rocked the fine and rare wine auction market in 2008. Centred around a counterfeiter who befriended the rich and powerful and sold millions of dollars of fraudulent wine through the top auction houses.
Rudy Kurniawan was, it was rumoured, a wine savant, had an expert memory for taste, a generous host, offering rare wines from his huge cellar, who in 2006 made 35 million dollars in two wine auctions from the sale of his wine. Then in 2008 a French wine producer, Laurent Ponsot, realised that wine from his family's domain was being sold from a year they hadn't produced it. That day, he says, he took the first plane to New York, and thus begun his crusade.
The film highlights how industrialisation of wine production has made everything taste the same and thus made life easier for the counterfeiters.
Tickets: €15 – includes movie and “tastes” tying in with the theme of the movie. Spaces limited so booking essential.

Thursday 23rd February 6pm
We are delighted to welcome Tony Speight from West Cork Coffee – a newly established independent micro-coffee roaster. Despite being new to the scene, WCC already has a variety of exciting single-origin roasts and has been winning rave reviews. In this coffee cupping, Tony will teach us how to taste coffee (slurping an’all!) and will have a selection of different coffees from all over the world to taste. This is a great opportunity to taste the upcoming coffees that will shortly be available by WCC Roastery.

The most fun way to learn about wine is back!
Here’s a little about the event - open to anyone who likes wine, socializing, having fun and enjoys a challenge -
note: this is not a speed-dating event ;-)
Here’s how it works: we teach you the basics of how to taste wine and then it’s over to you – you taste 6 wines over the course of the evening – but you’ll be on the move: a different table, a different wine, different co-tasters. And here’s the fun part… taste all the wines blind (i.e. we won’t tell you what each wine is) - it’s up to you to work with your co-tasters to try to guess based on the information provided at the start. There’s a prize for the person who correctly identifies all 6 wines.
Price €30pp - includes reception, introduction to wine tasting, speed tasting & nibbles.

Friday 3rd March
The Colin McLean Latin Trio
 10.00pm Admission Free
The Colin McLean Latin Trio play a mix of sultry South American music with Latin beats and grooves. Taking their influences from Oscar Lopez, Luis Villegas and Rodrigo y Gabriela. Always a superb gig, guaranteed to get you in the party mood!

We have added some exciting new wines to the list with more to come over the next few weeks. We also introduced the Coravin system just before Christmas for our higher-end wines – it’s been causing quite a stir and means that all our wines are now available by the glass.
We look forward to seeing you at some of our events or drop in for a glass of something lovely!
The L’Atitude Team,

PS: Check out this incredible sketch done over a glass of wine by Spanish artist Goval! What talented customers we have ;-)
