Munster Wine & Dine. Baltimore & Longueville on the Autumn Agenda.

Baltimore & Longueville on the Autumn Agenda.

Dear MWDC Members and Friends

We hope you all enjoyed the glorious summer weather and now that Autumn is with us, time to turn our attention to our remaining events of the year!

Firstly, we would like to apologise that, despite our best efforts, we were unable to reschedule our planned trip to Jack McCarthy in Kanturk, as hoped, which left us with a gap in our summer schedule.

However, we have two fantastic trips confirmed for Baltimore and Longueville House, which will make sure we end the year on a high note!

Numbers are limited for both events. We still have a few places available and we encourage members to sign up for one/both as soon as possible, as they promise to be super trips and are sure to fill up quickly! We will open both events to non-members if we do not fill all places with members by one week before the event date.

See details below:

Baltimore Trip to Glebe Gardens & Cafe, Casey's Brewery and Mews Restaurant
Date:  Sunday 30th September 2018
11am - coach leaves from outside L’Atitude 51, Cork to arrive at Glebe Gardens & Cafe, Baltimore at 1pm. Glebe Gardens is a vibrant West Cork haven, growing, cooking and serving the best of contemporary food since 2003. Guided garden tour with Jean Perry, followed by a light buffet lunch featuring local cheese, meats and fish plus some seasonal salads from the Glebe garden with homemade breads, pickles and dips.
From there, we stroll up the hill to the West Cork Brewing Company for a mid-afternoon sample of their three craft beers. This nano-brewery is based in Casey's of Baltimore Hotel and was the first Brew-Hotel to set up in Ireland.
Our final destination of the day is the wonderful Mews Restaurant, Baltimore, where the owners claim the reason they chose this location was because of the extraordinary ingredients available in this beautiful part of West Cork, which has a deep culture of gastronomy. They pride themselves on serving 100% local ingredients gathered daily from small-scale suppliers.
Coach will leave at approximately 8.30pm to return to Cork.

The day will include a tour and tasting of their amazing cider and brandy, followed by a Harvest Lunch.

Report of Tasting/Tour at Cotton Ball here

Indian Summer, a seasonal beer that's became a lasting success
Our next event is coming up on Tuesday 29th May to The Cotton Ball Brewery in Mayfield (please note that in the last mail that went out, there was a mistake which stated May 24th). Full details below:

Cotton Ball Brewery Tour and Tasting
Correct Date: Tuesday 29th May at 7pm
Brewery Tour by Eoin Lynch of Cotton Ball followed by tasting of 3 beers with matching cheeses provided by Isabelle Sheridan of "On The Pigs Back".

Situated beneath the historical Cotton Ball pub in the heart of Mayfield, which dates back to 1874, the Cotton Ball Brewing Company was set up in 2013 by Eoin Lynch, an analytical chemist by trade whose passion for home brewing led him to set up the brewery in memory of his great grandfather, Humphrey, who worked as a foreman of the picker room in Newburyport cotton mill. The brewery consists of a five barrel brew house where they brew a variety of award-winning beers from stouts to ales and lagers
Their beers pair extremely well with cheese, so we have invited Isabelle Sheridan of On The Pigs Back to match some tastes with the beers.
We will meet directly at the brewery as 7pm. The 208 bus passes right outside the Cotton Ball door from Patrick St. or there's also a large car park at the back of the brewery for anyone who wants to drive.
To sign up, please email us by Friday 25th May. mwdcircle@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you on the 29th for what promises to be another great event.

Full report on the 2018 Launch here

Munster Wine & Dine. Coming Soon. The 2018 Launch!

Dear MWDC Members & Friends

2017 was another great year for the Munster Wine & Dine Circle with lots of interesting and varied events from tea tastings to beer, gin and wine tastings to farm visits and long lazy lunches. You can read all about each event courtesy of Billy Lyons here at
http://www.corkbilly.com/search?q=munster+wine
and also
http://www.corkbilly.com/p/munster-wine-dine-launch.html

We are looking forward to another year of tastings, dinners, tours, and lots more...

We are delighted to announce that the 2018 launch will take place on Thursday 8th February at 6pm in L'Atitude 51 on Union Quay with a drinks and canapé reception and a talk and tasting with Toby Simmonds of the Real Olive Company, one of Cork's finest suppliers of Mediterranean products and locally-made Italian style cheeses.

The Real Olive Company began life in 1993 in Cork’s English Market, when Toby, at the age of twenty, took a small stall at the Princes Street end of the market. The stall began with just ten varieties of olives and a few other Mediterranean foods. The Real Olive Company has since gone from strength to strength. In 1994, they launched their first van onto the street markets of Ireland, bringing olives to the rest of the country. In 2009, Toby set up Toons Bridge Dairy with his wife Jenny-Rose Clarke making southern Mediterranean-style cheeses with raw cow and sheep milk. And they have exciting plans for the future, which Toby will share with us on the evening.

The launch will kick off at 6.00pm with a prosecco reception where we’ll welcome new members and everyone will have the opportunity to mingle, followed by a brief presentation and tasting of Real Olive Company Products, after which we will outline the programme for the year with you.

Admission to the launch is free (new and existing members), but capacity is limited, so please RSVP to this address before Friday 2nd February if you'd like to attend.

Existing Members - please note that membership subscriptions for 2018 are now up for renewal. At the last committee meeting, it was agreed not to increase membership subs this year. Therefore, single membership is still €30 and joint membership €50. Please find membership renewal form for 2018 attached. Cheques can be made payable to the MWDC or payment can also be made by bank transfer to the following account. IBAN IE81AIBK93638372852066 (BIC: AIBKIE2D) Please reference your name and “2018 Sub” if choosing this method of payment. Renewals are due by 8th February 2018.

New Members - we are currently accepting applications from new members. If possible, potential new members should be proposed by existing members and new members should send their application before the launch date on 8th February.

However, please note that membership numbers will be capped at 80 for 2018 to ensure that members get the chance to attend as many events as possible. Existing members will be given priority to renew their membership before new members are confirmed.

We think all members should have a voice so that the programme reflects what the members want, so we will shortly send a link to a very quick survey to ask what you’d like to see more of in 2018. The survey takes 1 minute to complete, so we would really appreciate your feedback.

If you'd like to attend the programme launch, please RSVP to mwdcircle@gmail.com by Friday 2nd February.

For members unable to attend, applications for membership renewal can be posted to the MWDC C/O L'Atitude 51, 1 Union Quay, Cork.

We look forward to seeing you on February 8th in L’Atitude 51!
